Halloween Fun at the Zoo!

October 01, 2008
When the air is getting crisp and the colors of Autumn surround you that can only mean one thing–It's time for Halloween ZooBoo presented by The Sallie Mae Fund!

For two extended weekends, the Indianapolis Zoo will offer not-so-spooky Halloween fun along with your favorite animals on exhibit. Join us for this Indianapolis family tradition and enjoy a friendly Halloween that your kids will remember. October 16-19 and October 23-26, the Zoo will open at 9 a.m. with special Halloween activities running from 2 p.m. until 7 p.m. including animals, old-fashioned Autumn fun, rides and treats. With so much to choose from, you are sure to satisfy the whole family.

Upon entering the Zoo, pick up your Halloween schedule full of ongoing and scheduled shows, chats, and activities. The animals at the Indianapolis Zoo love the cool weather and are eager to show off for visitors. Take in a Halloween Dolphin or Elephant Show featuring an elephant painting and a chance to win this one-of-a-kind piece of artwork. This is a chance to learn more about these amazing animals and for them to show off their behaviors for you. Be sure to enjoy Halloween-themed rides including a Halloween train rides, carousel, Roller Ghoster and 3-D rides.

Once on grounds, head over to the Party Pavilion for Halloween-themed games and music. To the sounds of monster music, let your children experience the thrill of bowling with a pumpkin, jumping around in a bounce house or leading each other through a real hay maze. Kids will have a blast with these festive traditions.

You can also join us in the North Pavilion for more activities where kids can learn about animals from our Not-So-Scary Animal Show and first-hand from our Animal Naturalists. Enjoy crafts from Lowe's, yummy treats and artifact touch boxes.

A Halloween celebration would not be complete without treats. Be sure to visit Plains to find several goodie stations to satisfy your little one's sweet tooth. After all, where else can kids trick-or-treat while watching giraffes, rhinos, kangaroos and elephants? Your family can even watch the Elephant Pumpkin Smash – the elephants' own version of a treat!

If the beauty of Autumn appeals to you, head over to White River Gardens for Autumn Harvest. The Hilbert Conservatory will feature an idyllic landscape of lovely Autumn colors and Indiana staples like harvest vegetables, an old-fashioned hand-pump, and even a quaint little barn. Let yourself be enchanted by the beauty of Fall in Indiana and the vibrant colors of the season.

Bring the whole family together to experience Halloween ZooBoo presented by The Sallie Mae Fund this Fall. Visit your favorite animals as you take a stroll through the Zoo specially decorated for Halloween. Come dressed in costume and experience a safe, friendly, spook-free event loaded with fun activities for all ages.
