National Museum Day Live! Free Admission for All Participants

Rhythm! Discovery Center Joins Smithsonian Magazine’s National Museum Day Live

August 22, 2012 | 12:59 PM

On Saturday September 29, 2012, Rhythm! Discovery Center, along with 7 other Indianapolis-area institutions, will open its doors free of charge along with over 1,400 other participating venues for the eighth annual Museum Day Live! This immensely successful program, in which Rhythm! will emulate the free admission policy of the Smithsonian Institution's Washington, D.C.-based facilities, encourages learning and the spread of knowledge nationwide.

Inclusive by design, Museum Day Live! fulfills Smithsonian Media's mission to make cultural education accessible to everyone. For one day only, Rhythm! Discovery Center will grant free access to visitors who download a Museum Day Live! ticket at Smithsonian.com. Last year's event drew over 350,000 museum-goers, and this year's Museum Day Live! is expected to attract close to 400,000 participants.

"Rhythm! Discovery Center is proud to participate in the Smithsonian's Museum Day Live! Providing access for everyone to have extraordinary learning experiences is essential for our community and a passion we proudly share with all participating institutions." said Rhythm! Executive Director Michael Kenyon. As an added bonus to Museum Day Live!, Rhythm! Discovery Center will present a special one-hour Rhythm! Saturday Program at 11am with the popular Griot Drum Ensemble, filled with African drumming, dancing and storytelling.

Rhythm! Discovery Center is the world's foremost percussion museum providing innovative programs; interactive, standards-based educational exhibits; and artist performances. Drawing upon cultures from around the world, the Center offers a unique, engaging experience to explore the universality of rhythm and percussion and its role in shaping communication, music, art, performance and society. Walking through the visually captivating exhibit rooms and performance venue, guests are invited to fulfill their dreams of being a percussionist.

The Museum Day Live! Ticket will be available to download beginning in August at Smithsonian.com/museumday. Visitors who present the Museum Day Live! Ticket will gain free entrance for two at participating venues for one day only. One ticket is permitted per household, per email address.
