Consignor Registration Open for Whale of a Sale Holiday Event in Carmel

Helping Families Earn Money on Gently Used Goods and Shop Santa’s List for Less

October 15, 2012 | 09:40 AM

The first holiday Whale of a Sale upscale children's consignment event is set for Nov. 17-18, at Meridian Village Plaza in Carmel, allowing families to earn money on gently used goods and shop Santa's list for much less.

Consignor registration is open to all families and is available at www.whale-sale.com. Consignors set the prices of their items in a user-friendly online system, earn a minimum of 60 percent of their total sales and the opportunity to receive up to 75 percent by volunteering at the sale. The average consignor earns $354 and receives a pass to shop first at the private pre-sale on Friday evening.

Admission is FREE. Sale hours are Saturday from 8:30-7 p.m. and Sunday from 8:30-3 p.m. Many items are half price on Saturday. $10 tickets are available for a private pre-sale on Friday evening on whale-sale.com.

Shoppers can expect to find everything on Santa's list including toys, games, books, puzzles, bikes, winter/holiday outfits, equipment, snow gear, sporting goods, accessories and holiday décor at a fraction of retail cost. The event draws popular brands such as Fisher Price, Melissa and Doug, Gymboree, Gap, Ralph Lauren, Janie and Jack, Stride Rite, Peg Perego, Graco, Pottery Barn Kids and many more.

Also expected are a variety of vendors from the Indianapolis area selling boutique and craft items, books, gifts, jewelry, accessories and more.

Consignment is increasingly popular in a down economy as families find kids growing out of clothing and equipment quickly, and also desire to be "green" by recycling gently-used gear.

"I always find great deals for my son and daughter at Whale of a Sale," said Laura Jarred, Carmel resident and customer. "At the holiday sale, I'll look for winter clothes and Christmas presents and not have to spend a fortune."

Butler University alums and Carmel moms, Courtney O'Neil and Jennifer Hare, are the founders of the sale. O'Neil says they enjoy being able to provide local families a, "fun, fashionable and clean bargain-hunting experience. We are NOT a garage sale – expect upscale finds."

Whale of a Sale is an upscale childrens and maternity consignment sale bringing families together to sell and buy gently-used, top-quality items in a department-store-like setting.
