The Apple Store at Conner Prairie Opens Sept. 1

August 21, 2013 | 08:33 AM

The Apple Store at http://connerprairie.org>Conner Prairie will open for the season on Sept. 1, and will return with popular and new decadent treats, nutritious apples and special gifts.

This fall, expect to enjoy not only a variety of apples fresh from Garwood Orchards in LaPorte, Ind., but also favorites like apples smothered in caramel, chocolate and sea salt, hot apple cider and new specialties like chocolate-covered potato chips.

Also new this season, guests will enjoy freshly brewed organic coffee, apple fritters and donuts, all from Jack's Donuts, which opened a Fishers location earlier this year. Cheesecake mixes in several flavors, including apple strudel, chocolate turtle and pumpkin caramel pecan, will also be added to the selection.

The Apple Store provides not only sweet treats, but also healthier options. There is something for everyone to enjoy, including gluten-free cookies, fine eco-green coffee, soup mixes, salsa and, of course, locally grown apples.

Additionally, the shop offers a wide range of gifts. Among these items are apple butter, gourmet pie mixes, locally made soaps and candles, Halloween decorations, and iron fire pit pokers crafted by Conner Prairie's very own blacksmiths.

"Fall is just around the corner and we are excited to open the Apple Store's doors," said Robin Scheevel, Apple Store chairwoman. "Stop in for seasonal favorites like caramel apples, cider slushies, apple pie and our delicious new treats. Our aisles will be filled with canned goods and recipe ideas – and we'd love to hear yours."

Customers who shop on opening day will receive 15 percent off their purchases until 5 p.m. The store will stay open late that night, through Symphony on the Prairie's intermission.

The Apple Store is operated by the Conner Prairie Alliance, a nonprofit women's volunteer organization that began in 1982. This group of women, currently with 107 members and growing, started the business in 1985. They have donated countless hours and dipped 14,283 caramel apples in 2012 alone. The group has raised more than $400,000 for Conner Prairie that have supported numerous projects including Discovery Station, Animal Encounters Barn, 1859 Balloon Voyage, River Crossing Play Area within 1863 Civil War Journey: Raid on Indiana, and more.
