Free Admission for College Students on Sundays in September

August 27, 2013 | 08:30 AM

Calling all Indiana college students….are you looking for a relaxing study break? How about a unique place to visit for a date? And it is FREE!

The world's largest children's museum appeals to more than just kids. The Children's Museum of Indianapolis features five full floors of excitement, entertainment, and education appreciated by adults who like to explore and enjoy their "inner child."

There is a special offer for college students on each Sunday in September (Sept. 1, 8, 15, 22, 29). Any full-time or part-time student enrolled in an Indiana private or public college or university (including online college students) is invited to enjoy a free day at the museum.

"Indiana's colleges and universities support our museum in many ways. These higher education institutions graciously provide academic expertise as we design and prepare our exhibits and galleries and we benefit from the hard work of the interns they share with us each semester. This is one way for us to say thank-you to these bright students and universities and offer learning opportunities for those who may be pursuing a career in education," said Dr. Jeffrey H. Patchen, president and CEO, The Children's Museum of Indianapolis. "We are dedicated to a cradle-to-college philosophy of education and create the majority of our exhibits to have multi-generational appeal."

Here are just a few examples of the current exhibits college students will explore in September

  • AVATAR: The Exhibition : Discover the extraordinary technology director James Cameron used to make the blockbuster movie AVATAR. The highly interactive exhibit lets visitors become an avatar in their own film clip.
  • Dinosphere : Feel the ground shake as the thunder claps and the dinosaurs romp. Journey back 65 million years to the Cretaceous Period and explore one of the largest displays of real juvenile and family dinosaur fossils in the United States.
  • Planetarium : Sit back and enjoy the stars during an award-winning, museum produced multi-media program called Curious Scientific Investigators: Flight Adventures.
  • Fireworks of Glass : Admire the breathtaking beauty of Dale Chihuly's 43-foot-tall tower of magnificent blown glass sculpture.
  • National Geographic's Treasures of the Earth : Uncover a pirate shipwreck, dig up the truth about the mysterious Chinese Terra Cotta Warriors Army ( real, ancient Terra Cotta Warriors will be coming to the museum during a blockbuster exhibit May 2014. At the same time, a new permanent exhibit exploring ancient and modern China will also debut. Take Me There: China will replace Take Me There: Egypt)

College students currently enrolled in school must show a student identification card at the museum box office for free admission. Limit one adult per ID.
