Indy Winter Farmers Market

Indy Winter Farmers Market

November 05, 2013 | 08:24 AM

The Indy Winter Farmers Market (IWFM) kicks off its sixth season Saturday at 9 a.m. at The Platform, in the west wing of the historic Indianapolis City Market, with more than 40 vendors offering Indiana-grown and produced fruit, vegetables, meat, dairy, baked goods, herbs, natural cleaning products and more!

The market, an initiative of Indianapolis-based nonprofit Growing Places Indy, runs Saturday mornings from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. through April 26, 2014.

The IWFM's mission is to directly connect farmers and producers with the community and foster personal relationships while promoting access to local, healthy food for all.

"We love being part of the vibrant downtown community," said Growing Places Indy Executive Director Laura Henderson. "By connecting residents of Indianapolis to Indiana growers and producers of good food and household products, our goal is to raise awareness of how choices we make every day affect our health, our communities, the economy and the environment."

The IWFM is proud to accept SNAP benefits, also known as food stamps, and to offer matching programs as part of our Eat Well Initiative, which is intended to increase our community's access to good, fresh, local foods. The IWFM is also excited to be the launching market for Indy Fresh Bucks, a city-wide initiative to match food stamp purchases at farmers markets.
