Picture this: the front door is blocked with snow, the kids are running around in their pajamas displaying their excitement for a snow day, and immediately plop down in front of the TV.

Or maybe you’ve spent your Saturday morning in 95-degree weather, watching herds of uncoordinated 6-year-olds following a soccer ball around a field. The second you bring the kids home, you find a trail of Gatorade bottles and kicked off soccer cleats, socks, and shin guards leading towards the PlayStation. You want to turn the TV off, but you dread the “are you kidding me?” looks that you know you’re going to receive the minute you step within a foot of the remote. Luckily, creative minds all over the world have come up with a few alternatives that are sure to keep the kids happy and excited to have artwork to display around the house.

This craft blog aims to give you step-by-step tutorials on how to keep the kids entertained and the creativity flowing. And who knows? Maybe the kid inside you will find some joy in these crafts as well.

Wine Cork Shamrock Craft for St. Patrick's Day

Wine Cork Shamrock Craft for St. Patrick’s Day

March 11, 2014 | 09:43 AM

St. Patrick's Day is coming up, so why not make do a special craft!

Materials you need:
  • 3 wine corks
  • Tape
  • Green paint
  • Tiny Paintbrush (optional, kids could just use their fingers to make this a finger painting activity as well.)

Once you have your materials collected, align the three wine corks so that they make a flat top, then tape them together. Next Paint the flat part of the wine corks green, or have the kids dip them from a plate.

Now you are ready to make your Shamrocks! Stamp the corks on the paper and then draw on the stems.

You could also try adding a fourth wine cork to make a lucky four-leaf clover. You could also try adding green and gold sparkles to add a bit of holiday shimmer to the craft!
