Connecting Sounds Apraxia of Speech Playgroup
Occurring Each Friday Beginning Friday, March 14, 2014 Through Friday, March 28, 2014.
Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS) is a motor-speech programming disorder resulting in difficulty sequencing the oral-motor movements necessary to produce and combine speech sounds to form syllables, words, phrases and sentences on voluntary (rather than only reflexive) control. Many children are able to hear words, and are able to understand what they mean, but they struggle with the fine-motor skill of combining consonants and vowels to form words. In children, this difficulty “connecting sounds” into words upon direct imitation is called childhood apraxia of speech.
CTC’s Apraxia of Speech Playgroup teaches children best word approximations by combining simple to complex consonants and vowel sounds into a functional vocabulary, while promoting language development, in a small group setting. Our comprehensive approach utilizes drill, conversation, and structured play, with cues, prompts, and support. The Apraxia of Speech Playgroup is a great supplement to your child's speech therapy program.
Children will be enrolled on a first come, first served basis. Ratios are kept low to allow each child individual attention and instruction, so space is limited Please contact our office at firstname.lastname@example.org or (317) 288-7606 for additional details.
