Unlocking The Spectrum

April 01, 2012

Unlocking The Spectrum was created with the mission of making ABA Therapy accessible to ALL children with autism by providing high quality ABA Therapy services throughout Indiana.

Research, conducted over the past 40 years, has shown ABA Therapy to be the most effective treatment for children with autism. In fact, ABA therapy is the only therapy endorsed by the Surgeon General for individuals with autism and other developmental delays.

Ilana Hernandez, MA, BCBA is the Founder and Director of Unlocking The Spectrum. Ilana grew up in Bloomington and first began working with children who had special needs while in college at Indiana University. Working at a group home for children with autism, Ilana realized that there had to be a way to more effectively help the children she cared so deeply about. She began researching and discovered Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) Therapy. Ilana believes that ABA therapy should be made available to all children with an autism spectrum disorder and founded Unlocking The Spectrum with this goal in mind.

At Unlocking The Spectrum all therapists undergo intensive and continual education and training to ensure that clients receive the most effective ABA therapy available with the goal of helping all clients reach their maximum potential.

Unlocking The Spectrum specializes in bringing the therapy to the client--in their home and in their community. Client’s receive services in a wide variety of settings including their home, school, Unlocking The Spectrum’s clinic, and the community to ensure that skills are generalized across all environments. Intensive parent training and collaboration with all members of a client’s team are an essential part of every individualized program developed.

Unlocking The Spectrum is hosting the only Indianapolis site for the 9th Annual Blow Bubbles 4 Autism event that will be taking place on April 26 at 12:45 p.m. EST. The founding organization, FACES Autism Support Network is once again attempting to break a Guinness World Record for the largest number of bubble blowers, and we are asking for participants to join us in our parking lot at 12:45 p.m. on that day. We will be raffling off some items, offering food and drinks courtesy of some wonderful local restaurants and vendors and bringing awareness to autism and to do our part to help them break that record. We are hoping to have at least 200 participants join us, and be counted.
