Summer Reading Programs

June 01, 2013

It’s never too early to get your kids on the reading bandwagon! Prepare them for school by getting them in the mood to read! Don’t feel like you have to do all of the work, take them to the library and enroll them in summer reading programs. Here are some popular options:

  • The Indianapolis Public Library’s summer reading program kicks off on June 1st and ends July 27th. All Indy locations as well as Beech Grove Public Library are participating! Call ahead!

  • IUPUI is at it again! Programs have been offered as a community service by Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis, Division of Continuing Studies, since 2003. There are camps for 4 year olds to entering Kindergarteners all the way to entering 12th graders, college students, and adults. This program allows all ages to have an opportunity to read popular books based on their grade/age. Visit for more information.

  • Sylvan Learning Center is always ready to prepare your kids how to read; however this summer, for $95, focus on exact skills your child needs to master reading. Kids will use an Ipad to make reading more fun; teachers will adapt your child’s individual skill level and pace, and provide instant feedback. Visit the website to find the number and address of whichever location you prefer.

  • For 27 years, The Children's Museum has offered neighborhood youth an affordable, curriculum-based summer program. StarPoint Summer Camp is a unique, six week long camp available to ages 6–12. Each week is themed according to an exhibit or element in the Museum. Session 1, from June 17-July 15th, will have a week over “Book Power.” CLICK HERE
